Best athletes of 2006 in Cuba


ATHLETE Zulia Calatayud and boxer Guillermo Rigondeaux were selected as the best athletes of 2006 in Cuba, from a survey of the National Sports Institute (INDER), which also elected baseball the most outstanding team sport.
Baseball, most outstanding team.
According to the 130 votes of INDER specialists (74) and members of the Sports Writers Circle of the Cuban Union of Journalists (56), this year’s analysis included representatives of 10 disciplines.
Baseball was chosen as the most outstanding team and collective sport, while athletics was the best individual sport and cyclist Lisandro Guerra novice of the year.
